Kantha Quilt Jacket
Bring on the cooler weather Mother Nature! Quilt Coats are fun and cozy to make and wear! In this workshop, we will start with The Elemental Coat Pattern and a Kantha quilt and then mix it up however you would like - short, medium of long lengths, 3/4 sleeves, full sleeves, or custom fit; hood, collar or open; pockets or not. Your Jacket Your Way! Cheri' Hanschu will walk us through making this simple modular jacket. These are loose fitting with many options. This is the perfect jacket to bring together the quilt makers and garment makers!
Kantha's are beautiful lightweight quilts from India with layers of cotton gauze-like fabrics in fun colors quilted together with sashiko running stitches. They are lightweight - just right for the transitional seasons. Cheri' will have plenty of Kantha quilts to choose from - come shop her stash at the workshop and let's get started on your fall wardrobe - or your Christmas gift giving! The Kantha quilt will run about $35.00.

Skill Details: | Don't worry if you haven't made garments before. This coat goes together so simply that you don't need any garment sewing experience. You also don't need quilting experience! The perfect bridge between garment makers and quilters! |
Requirements: | 1/2 - 1 yard of coordinating fabric for bias binding, you can pick something at the store after you pick your Kantha Quilt Sewing machine Thread Rotary Cutter / mat (large mats will be available in the classroom) Scissors - (serrated are nice) available day of the class Pins / clips Seam ripper Pen / Pencil 12" ruler or any straight edge. (Does not need to be quilting tool) Any of your favorite sewing notions |

Instructor Bio: | Cheri' reigns from McPherson and has been interested in stitching and fabrics from a very young age. Her first sewing project in a sewing class included a skirt and jacket - fitted, lined and wool! She later went onto college to study fashion merchandising and interior design - all the while enjoying color and textures. Those loves have followed her throughout her life! |
